What is the “good character” criteria for a New Zealand visa?

New Zealand is one of the countries in the world that is happy to accept foreign nationals. However, in order to protect their own residents, they do require those who apply for a visa to New Zealand to provide evidence of their good character.

The most common way to prove this is through a police certificate from their country for all applicants who are 17 years and older. This certificate would need to be obtained from every country where the applicants lived for at least twelve months during the course of the last ten years.

New Zealand Visa Expert, working in collaboration with a licensed Immigration Adviser, helps those who want to move to New Zealand to understand this process more thoroughly. The police certificate must be obtained no more than six months prior to when the visa application is submitted for New Zealand residency. You should not be required to get the police certificates until you receive the Invitation to Apply (ITA) for a New Zealand visa.

Those who might not be eligible for a visa to New Zealand would include people who have been associated with criminal groups, have been convicted of particular types of crimes, pose a risk to the safety of others, or are likely to be involved with drugs or other criminal activities.

In the 2015 Global Peace Index, New Zealand was ranked as the fourth safest country to live. New Zealand desires to keep its citizens safe so that their country remains a safe, peaceful place to live and work.
